Our congregation is filled with warm, welcoming people from different backgrounds, geographical regions, and religious traditions. We have diverse political and philosophical ideas, too. So what unites us? A common calling to follow Christ by loving God, neighbor, and self.

As progressive Christians we are open to God's ongoing revelation. In 1996 we proclaimed ourselves an "Open and Affirming" congregation which celebrates human diversity. Our worship services are rooted in the Reformation tradition and embellished with creativity and sincerity. Often we experience the gentle transforming presence of the Spirit on Sunday mornings as we sing, laugh, pray, learn, sit quietly, and cry together.

In addition to supporting one another, for four decades our congregation has made a critical difference in Hayward through social service organizations (including South Hayward Parish and FESCO) and by providing facilities-use for two other churches, a multiracial day care, and additional small groups.

We are filled with gratitude for our church and its impact in our lives and community. It is a deep blessing to hear God's call and respond. If you and your loved ones are looking for a gracious, open-minded spiritual community, I hope you'll come visit some Sunday - we're even more wonderful in person!

In the Big Love,
The Rev. Kathryn Schreiber
